  • Ali Erginay
    Dr. Ali Erginay, MD, a senior consultant ophthalmologist at Lariboisière Hospital. He specialises in vitreo-retinal disorders. His research is particularly focused on DR, and he is involved in various national and international clinical trials related to retinal vascular diseases. He is a member of the French Ophthalmological Society (SFO), the European Study Group on Diabetic Eye Complications (EASDEC), EURETINA, the European Ophthalmological Society (SOE), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).

    Professor Bożena Romanowska-Dixon, MD, DSc

    She specializes in ophthalmic oncology, conducting research on: the use of transcorneal thermotherapy in the treatment of intraocular cancer metastases, optimization of the management of melanocytic lesions of the conjunctiva, the management of choroidal hemangiomas, the properties of the fibrin network in patients with retinal vein occlusion, the cause of recurrence of choroidal melanoma treated with Ru-106 brachytherapy. In January 2011, in cooperation with the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, she co-founded the establishment of the first Proton Radiotherapy Laboratory in Poland.
    She has introduced innovative surgical techniques that are applied in practice: new methods of surgical treatment of intraocular tumors (2003., 2004.), proton therapy method (January 2011.), brachytherapy with Ru-106 (1995), brachytherapy with I-125 (1997).
    She was the Promoter of 16 defended doctoral theses, a reviewer in many postdoctoral proceedings (18), and proceedings for the conferral of the title of Professor of Medical Sciences (13), and doctoral theses (17).

  • Sibylle Scholtz
    Dr. Sibylle Scholtz, Biologist, Chemist, PhD in Ophthalmology, International Science Correspondent, Associated Senior Research Fellow (Institute of Experimental Ophthalmology, Saarland University Faculty of Medicine, Germany). She has a longstanding experience in the ophthalmic medical device industry, subject matter expert in biometry and IOL power calculation.
  • Frank Krogmann
    Since 1972, Frank Krogmann has been engaged in historical research, especially in genealogy. Since about 1990, he has been researching the history of medicine, especially in the field of ophthalmology. Since about 2000, he has been managing director of the JULIUS-HIRSCHBERG-GESELLSCHAFT headquarters: Vienna - [Association for the History of Ophthalmology]. He is the honoured recipient of various national and international lectures and articles. He is the editor of the ‘"Mitteilungen der JULIUS-HIRSCHBERG-GESELLSCHAFT zur Geschichte der Augenheilkunde" (Transactions of the JULIUS-HIRSCHBERG-SOCIETY on the history of ophthalmology"), which has now published 17 volumes
  • Hussain Ahmad Khaqan
    Hussain Ahmad Khaqan, MD, Professor and Head of Ophthalmology at the Post Graduate Medical Institute, Lahore General Hospital, and Ameer Ud Din Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. A distinguished ophthalmologist, consultant, and retinal surgeon specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina. Holds FRCS (Glasgow, UK), FCPS (Ophthalmology, Vitreo-Retina), MHPE, and fellowships in Vitreoretinal Surgery and Medical Retina (LMU, Munich). Author of over 106 research publications and 256 conference presentations, serving as an ICO and CPSP supervisor and examiner. Recipient of multiple awards, including the APAO Achievement Award, Distinguished Services Award, Thessaloniki TVRS Teacher Award, and five gold medals for excellence in ophthalmology, research, and leadership. He has authored seven books, including Ophthalmology Made Easy and Challenges of Retinal Surgery.
  • Lesya Shuba
    Professor, PhD, Lesya Shuba was born in Kiev, Ukraine. Before coming to Halifax, Canada in 1992, she attended Medical Institute in Kiev, Ukraine. In 1996 she earned a PhD degree from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada in cardiac electrophysiology. She went on to complete her MD degree and Ophthalmology residency at Dalhousie University, and a Glaucoma Fellowship with Drs. Alward and Kwon at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA. She is currently a Professor, Interim Head and a Glaucoma Fellowship Director at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada
  • James Merritt MD
    James H. Merritt M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and has dedicated his career to ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery in adults and children. A native of Dallas and fifth generation Texan, Dr. Merritt formed Oculoplastic Associates of Texas in 1991. Dr. Merritt has been named a D Magazine “Best Doctor” over 13 times for his work at Oculoplastic Associates of Texas.
    Prior to his entry into private practice, Dr. Merritt was the director of the Oculoplastic and Orbital Service at Southwestern Medical School here in Dallas. Dr. Merritt is a fellow and member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Texas Ophthalmology Association, The Texas Medical Association and Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Merritt serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Dallas and Children’s Medical Center. He also currently serves as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.
  • Jorge Corona
    Jorge Corona, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist subspecializing in oculoplastic and orbital surgery. Dr. Corona served as an oculoplastic surgeon at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Big Spring, TX before joining Oculoplastic Associates of Texas in 2007.
    Dr. Corona has been a clinical assistant professor at Texas Tech University Health Science Center since 2003. He has lectured in multiple countries on new advances in the field of oculoplastics
  • Zev Shulkin MD
    A native of Dallas, Dr. Shulkin specializes in diseases of the eyelid and orbit in both children and adults. He is a Board-Certified Member and the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO), member of American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, member of Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology. His interests include thyroid eye disease, the eye socket, eye muscle disorders, droopy eyelids, and tumors of the eyelid and ocular adnexa. Dr. Shulkin’s unique and extensive training allows him to have an in depth understanding of both the functional and cosmetic needs of his patients. Dr. Shulkin devotes a significant portion of his time to surgical approaches to eye muscle disorders and can help patients who have disabling double vision or a wandering eye. He also performs cosmetic injectable treatments and cosmetic eyelid procedures to help his patients restore a more youthful appearance.

  • Marco Attilio Eugenio Zarbin
    Dr. Marco Attilio Eugenio Zarbin, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S. was born in Milano, Italy, received a B.A. (biochemistry) from Dartmouth College (Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, with highest distinction) in 1978. He matriculated to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1978 and entered their Medical Scientist Training Program in 1980. Dr. Zarbin was awarded degrees in medicine (M.D.) and pharmacology (Ph.D.) in 1984 and graduated from the Hopkins Medical School as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Zarbin was a medical intern at the Dartmouth- Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H. He completed an ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute (Johns Hopkins Hospital) from 1985-1988.
